Ride 2 Recovery—a program providing bikes, equipment, clinics, and bicycling outings for injured veterans—is asking the public for donations of homemade, patriotic-themed quilts for the group’s upcoming fundraising auction.

The quilts may be hand- or machine-made, but must be submitted to Ride 2 Recovery by Sept. 25. Tax donation letters will be available to donors.

This year’s auction will be held on Oct. 7 at Flag Is Up Farms in the Santa Ynez Valley and marks the third year local R2R volunteers have worked to raise money for soldiers who’ve lost limbs or developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. All money raised from the auction will go toward purchasing special bikes veterans can use for the Ride 2 Recovery program and keep for themselves.

Ride 2 Recovery is sponsored by the Veterans Administration, USO, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
