Calling all potential babysitters: On Feb. 27, the Lompoc Parks, Recreation, and Urban Forestry Department will offer an American Red Cross-certified Babysitting Training Course from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Anderson Recreation Center, 125 W. Walnut Ave., in Lompoc.

Enrollees will learn how to prevent and respond to emergencies and how to identify common safety problems and prevent injuries. The class instructor will also give tips on finding and interviewing for babysitting jobs, how to perform first aid, and how to get professional help fast. The program is designed for people ages 11 to 15 years. It costs $45 for city residents and $54 for people living in the surrounding areas.

To register for the class—or to learn about other educational opportunities provided through the city of Lompoc—contact the Lompoc Parks, Recreation, and Urban Forestry Department at 875-8100.
