Scoring 20 points would be a good night for any basketball player, and scoring 30 points would be a career night for most players, but for Camille Zumbro, it’s merely ordinary. The freshman phenom is the leading scorer for the Allan Hancock Lady Bulldogs, and she’s scored at least 20 points in nearly all her games.
She’s not letting success go to her head, however, as Zumbro is more interested in improving the Lady Bulldogs’ 5-4 record than her scoring average. Team improvement is the top priority for the talented gym rat (though she isn’t too fond of the term itself).
“I really have to work at it,” she said.
Like any dedicated athlete, Zumbro knows the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary. Playing basketball for Hancock was a long-time goal for Zumbro, and she loves every second of it.
Though Zumbro was home schooled—and thus didn’t play high school ball—the Orcutt product played club ball for years and has made a smooth transition to the junior college level.
Zumbro has hopes of continuing her hoop dreams after she transfers, but is more concerned about her performance in the classroom than on the court. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t planning, and working for success in both areas. Her dream school? Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
