Anytime Fitness will be celebrating the grand opening of its new 24-hour gym on Jan. 28, and lots of Old Town Orcutt business merchants are pitching in with free food and prizes to make it a grand day for the entire community.Ā
The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will offer something for all ages to enjoy, according to the local independent owner of Anytime Fitness, Dr. Jeff Ando, such as a bounce house for kids, and ālots and lots of prizes, including a seven-day trip to Hawaii.ā

There will also be door prizes generously donated by Old Town business merchants, including wines from Luciaās Wine Company and Anonymous Winery, massages from Tracy Winikof and Carrie Tanner, spa treatments from Insparations Salon, items from Casa Bella Gifts, and delicious local fare from Rooneyās Irish Pub, Kayās Country Kitchen, The Loading Doc, Jackās Restaurant and Bakery, Patricioās Pizzaria, and Swackās Pizza and Wings.
According to its website, Anytime Fitness in Orcutt is part of the worldās largest chain of fitness centers, with more than 1,800 gyms around the globe. Despite the large size of the chain, Anytime Fitness in Orcutt strives to provide a small-town, friendly, supportive atmosphere for clients. It is a service-oriented business, offering personalized workouts via a plan Ando calls āS.L.E.D.,ā which stands for āStronger, Leaner, Every Day.ā All members are set up with a fully written-out exercise plan based on their fitness goals and the S.L.E.D. philosophy.Ā
Ando, who is also a chiropractor, explained how the S.L.E.D. program works: āFor example, if a firefighter comes to the gym, he or she wants to work on cardio, endurance, core strength, and lifting. We design a program tailored to meet those goals. If another person comes in who wants to focus on losing weight, we develop a personal regimen for them as well.ā
Anytime Fitness is 5,200-square feet in size and is located in a brand new building, so everything is fresh and scrupulously clean, with private restrooms and showers. Thereās 24-hour access and security, as well as tanning beds, cardio and strength-training equipment, TV screens, free weights, and more.Ā
TRX classes are also offered, which according to Ando, āincorporate full body functional motion. These classes incorporate cardio, functional strength and balance to keep you healthy.āĀ
Membership fees range from $19 to $39 a month, depending on the needs of the client. During the grand opening, all enrollment fees will be waived. Ten percent of the dayās proceeds will be donated to the Childrenās Tumor Foundation, an organization that supports research and treatment of neurofibromatosis.Ā
Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, there are no excuses for not keeping fit in 2012. Visit Anytime Fitness at 153 E. Clark Ave., in Orcutt, or call 938-1300 for more information.
