Buellton City Council members will fill a recently emptied seat during their meeting on Feb. 8, where three applicants will be publicly interviewed before one is chosen.Ā
Council members agreed to begin taking applications at a meeting on Dec. 14 after former Councilmember Foster Reif announced his early resignation due to a job opportunity in Ohio, according to a staff report. His last day as a member was Jan. 25, according to Buellton City Clerk Linda Reid.
The applicants as of the Sun‘s press time were Buellton residents Judith Dale, a retired UC Santa Barbara faculty member and former Buellton City Council member; John Dorwin, an attorney and former Buellton Chamber of Commerce president; and Shannon Sadecki, a high school math teacher.
Each of the applicants’ rĆ©sumĆ©s are included in the Feb. 8 report, and Buellton residents will have an opportunity to comment on the appointment at the City Council’s coming meeting, Reid told the Sun. The chosen applicant will be sworn in before Feb. 22, and his or her term will expire December 2020.
The terms of every other Buellton City Council member, including the mayor, expire and are up for election this November.
“There wasn’t a lot of interest in this one, which surprised me because it’s kind of a freebie,” Reid said.
