Through Feb. 22, Student Transportation of America is holding an online job fair to fill school bus driver positions throughout the United States and Canada. The company is providing what officials in a press release called ārecession-proof jobsā in these tough economic times.
āKids have to go to school despite the ups and downs of the economy,ā Dina Cooper, the companyās director of recruiting, said in the release. āBudget deficits are prompting many more school districts to consider the benefits of contracted student transportation, and weāre expecting to win a record number of new business bids in the coming months.ā
Anyone interested in working for Student Transportation of America can apply online at rideSTA.com. The companyās human resources team will contact candidates to arrange interviews at local STA terminals.
School bus drivers take children to and from school each day on assigned routes. Typical ārunsā are during the morning and afternoons, and average 20 to 30 hours per week. Extracurricular runsāsuch as for sports events, field trips, and charter workāmight also be available.
Job requirements include a clean driving record and the ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical, a pre-employment drug test, and a criminal background check. The company prefers hiring experienced bus drivers with commercial driverās licenses, but provides free training for good drivers who donāt have experience driving a bus. The program includes classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to prepare candidates for written and road examinations.
Student Transportation of America is also filling positions on its regional and national management teams. Transportation professionals interested in management positions can look online as well.
āWeāre looking for people who enjoy making a difference in childrenās lives,ā Cooper said in the release. āThis is a great job for moms who want to have the same schedules as their school-aged children, retirees, and college students looking for extra income.ā
