Hancock students win at SLOIFF
The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (SLOIFF) has awarded the short film After Dusk—which was directed and produced by Allan Hancock College students—the “best narrative short film” for the 2014 festival. The film screened alongside 15 other shorts at the “Central Coast Filmmaker Showcase” on March 9.
The film was a collaborative effort by seven student directors and editors who completed it as part of the intermediate filmmaking class at Hancock taught by Robin Smith. The film is a satirical depiction of Dracula, who wants to begin a career in photography, but must overcome his fear of lights.
A documentary by the same group was also screened at the festival. The Hardest Job and After Dusk were the first films produced by Hancock students to show in the festival since it began in 1993.
