Lompoc Unified School District, Reading Plus, and the United Way are kicking off what the United Way is terming the first Community Literacy Initiative in the country on Aug. 6 at Hotel Corque in Solvang.
The partnership between the school district and the literacy programs will provide all residents of Lompoc with access to the Power Reading program with the goal of improving literacy skills for all age groups.
Local businesses and community-based organizations can provide access to the reading program for their associates and the United Way is also offering additional support for those who need it.
