On May 3, a dozen Santa Maria Valley high school seniors were awarded $1,400 scholarships at the Minerva Scholarship Tea. The students had no idea how much money they would be receiving, but as soon as they heard the club announce the amount, smiles lit up on all the faces in the room.
The students were introduced by their high school counselors, leaders, and board members, and then each of them was given a chance to thank all the people who had been a part of their academic lives.
Also, each of the students shared a unique story of how he or she came to be the person he or she is today.

āItās so wonderful that we can help out these students who have worked so hard to be able to go to universities across the country,ā Minerva Club member Carol Shinn said. āTheir stories are so touching, and we wish them the best.ā
The 12 students who received the scholarships will be graduating from schools all over the Santa Maria Valley area, including Santa Maria High, Righetti High, Saint Joseph High, Valley Christian Academy, Delta, and Pioneer Valley High.
