The Minerva Club has been meeting in town since its start in 1894 by a group of women who called themselves “The Ladies Library.” Now, more than 100 years have passed since those 25 pioneering women made the decision to take a step up and establish a club that would focus on the community.

This nonprofit social women’s club continues to work for the community with its support of the library, fundraising events for local charities, and rewarding scholarships to local high school students.

The Minerva Club is gearing up for its annual “Trash and Treasure” rummage sale—a tradition of the club for more than 20 years.

The sale is one of the largest rummage sales in Santa Maria. The annual event offers clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry, toys, books, and an assortment of household items.

Women of the club have been donating their barely used treasures to be sold at bargain basement prices for a while now.

For the sixth year, the noontime Kiwanis Club will provide a barbecued tri-tip meal deal, which includes the sandwich, chips, and soda, and costs $5 for everyone who participates on April 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The “Trash and Treasure” event spreads across April 17 and 18 at the Minerva clubhouse on the corner of Boone and Lincoln in Santa Maria, starting at 8:20 a.m. each morning. The sale will run until 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
