A man was shot in the foot on South Pine Street near Santa Maria High School on the evening of Nov. 3. Law enforcement says the suspect is not known at this time.

Lt. Paul Van Meel with the Santa Maria Police Department confirmed with the Sun that the shooting had occurred and was an attempted murder.

ā€œWe had one male get shot in the foot,ā€ he said, adding detectives had yet to determine a motive or if the crime was gang related. ā€œWe just have very little information right now.ā€

Van Meel said he would not release the victim’s name, or if he was a minor, until detectives could complete their investigation.
