• Take a hike at Los Flores: Walks start promptly at 10 a.m., running about two hours on the second Saturday of each month until August. Hikers are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring binoculars and a lunch to enjoy in one of the park’s scenic picnic areas. The walks are free to city residents. For non-residents, park entry is $3 for adults and $1.50 for seniors; youths aged 15 and younger get in free. Golf for Wishes Tournament: The annual fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Tri-Counties at Monarch Dunes Golf Course in Nipomo is May 20. The tournament begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start, and dinner will follow. • Weightlifting Challenge: The Senior Airman Dan Johnson Memorial Patriot Games Challenge at the Santa Maria Athletic Club is May 21. Compete in powerlifting, bench press, deadlift, and push-pull competitions beginning at 9 a.m., followed by a program in memory of Johnson, the Tuskegee Airmen, veterans, and fallen police officers. • Team Hope Walk for Huntington’s Disease: The annual walk/disc golf fundraiser is May 21 at Waller Park in Santa Maria. The event consists of a one-mile walk around Waller Park and nine holes of disc golf.
