Santa Maria Civic Theatre presents its second show of the season—Wake Up, Darling, written by Alex Gottlieb and directed by Meg Smith—on Nov. 20, 21, 27, 28, and Dec. 4, 5, 11, and 12. All performances start at 8 p.m.

The comedy concerns aspiring young actress Polly Emerson and her husband, Don, a successful advertising man who yearns to be a playwright. Don has a shelf of unproduced plays to his credit, so he isn’t too happy when Polly comes home with Deerfield Prescot, a young guy who’s written Broadway’s next musical hit—or so he tells Polly and Don. He’s decided that Polly is just the person to star in his show, so he takes over her life, and consequently Don’s, by moving into their apartment to put the finishing touches on his masterpiece. Gloria, a divorced friend of Polly’s, arrives at the same time.

The theater is located at 1660 N. McClelland St. in Santa Maria. All tickets cost $14. For more information and/or reservations, call 922-4442 or visit smct.org.
