The Camp Fire cabin in Buena Vista Park in Santa Maria recently received a new coat of paint thanks to a donation by Home Depot and volunteer work by Buena Vista Beautifiers, Camp Fire Central Coast, and helpful locals on Sept. 3. After recent vandalism of the cabin, plans to paint the structure were aided by the quick help from Home Depot, explained Camp Fire executive director Ken Miles.
āThe community of Santa Maria cares about their children and youth,ā Miles said in a statement. āAnd Home Depot is one of many responsive businesses and individuals who support Camp Fire as we help young people āfind their sparkā and thrive.ā
The Camp Fire cabin was designated an āObject of Historical Meritā in 2011 by the Santa Maria Landmark Committee. It was built in 1935 on Santa Maria High School grounds, but was moved to Buena Vista Park in order to make room for new buildings. The small cabin is used by Camp Fire Central Coast, which also opens the space up for other local organizations and nonprofits like the Good Samaritan Shelter.
