The Central Coast Music Teachers Association announced Nipomo student Adam Chunsung Park as the 2011 winner of the Clara Jean Curzon Music Scholarship, awarded annually to an outstanding high school senior with plans to major or minor in music at a college, university, or conservatory. Park is a student of the association’s Belva Mehlschau Hanson of Santa Maria.
Although he’s been a piano student for more than 12 years and an oboe student for around seven years, Park has also learned and played the drums, guitar, trombone, and saxophone. His piano activities include playing for his and other churches on the Central Coast, as well as recitals and competitions offered through the California Association of Professional Music Teachers. He’s also been the principal oboe player for the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2007.
The Clara Jean Curzon Music Scholarship was established in 1997 to honor the memory of the founder of the Central Coast Music Teachers Association’s local chapter. For more information about the group, call Louise Frye at 481-7561.
