The Santa Maria Valley Historical Society recently announced its latest display on veterans of the Civil War in Santa Maria, which will be on display at the museum at 616 S. Broadway in Santa Maria.
Many veterans of the American Civil War representing the north and south moved to Santa Maria. Between 1890 and 1925, Charles Hill, O.P. Paulding, John Litenburg, and William Lawrence moved their families to Santa Maria.
The display holds artifacts from the Paulding family. Dr. Paulding fought with the 69th Ohio Infantry and was with Sherman on his March to the Sea.
Also on display are photos and artifacts from the collection of Barron Smith, a local authority on the war.
Smith will discuss the war at 11 a.m. on Jan. 14 during the Valley Speaks at the Santa Maria Public Library. For more information, call 922-3130.
