The deadline to enter the 2017 Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival Kid’s Art Contest is April 14 this year. The competition, sponsored by the Sun, is open to all first through eight graders from Northern Santa Barbara County schools.
Entries will be judged on originality, artistic composition, and relevant content. The recommended strawberry pattern for artists to use can be found in the Sun now, and for the next two issues. Artists should submit works that bring the strawberry images to life with any colorful media that includes, but is not limited to, markers, paint, colored pencils, or crayons. However, no computer generated or enhanced artwork will be accepted.
Submissions will be judged according to grade category: first through third, fourth through sixth, and seventh through eighth. First place winners in each grade category will receive a $25 gift card and tickets to the Strawberry Festival. The first place winner’s classroom will also receive a $150 gift card for classroom supplies.
All entries must be submitted to the Santa Maria Fairpark, located at 937 S. Thornburg St., Santa Maria, by 5 p.m. on April 14. More info: 925-8824 or santamariafairpark.com.
