Exciting news from the Discovery Museum! In celebration of our 10th anniversary on McClelland Street, we’ve created a new logo for the museum and we wanted you to be the first to know!
The new branding is a fresh, playful look at our mission to explore ourselves, our valley, our world, and beyond. We’re working hard to add more science, technology, engineering, math, and arts programming and exhibits to the Discovery Museum, and the logo is a reflection of that ongoing effort. We’re also creating new programming with an emphasis on local resources, like agriculture, energy, and oceanography. The colorful test tube, gear, and whale’s tail are fun reminders of the wonderful hands-on learning adventures the museum offers for all ages. And it looks great on our new T-shirts!
Along with a new logo, we’ve been working hard to revitalize our facilities. After 10 years, our building and exhibits needed some sprucing up. We’re now proud to say that there isn’t a single hole that doesn’t belong here! On a recent weekend, we had the third big clean-up work day over the past six months with St. Joseph High School students. The rock climbing wall got a good scrubbing, and even our storage areas got cleaned and reorganized. Spring is in the air, and the museum feels and looks fresh and ready for the summer crowds.
We very much appreciate the many volunteers who’ve shared their time and talents with us over the past year to get the museum back in shape. We couldn’t exist without the generosity of our community members who give their time and resources to the museum and to so many other critical organizations and agencies throughout Santa Barbara County. We’re always in need of electricians, plumbers, general contractors, painters, and the general public to take on cleaning and maintenance projects for the museum. So if you have some spare time and talent, please drop in and say hello. And bring the family!
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Check out our Facebook page at smvdiscoverymuseum for daily tips on fun things to do with your kids!
