Before three hours of working the Dec. 6 Santa Maria holiday-parade crowd, Camp Fire is celebrating this season with a reception and open house at its newly refreshed cabin from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Camp Fire cabin in Buena Vista Park was built in 1935 with funds provided by the Kiwanis club and the Santa Maria high school districtās school board. It originated on the Santa Maria High School campus and was moved to its current location in 1950. The cabin got a faceliftānew paint, new kitchen equipment, flowerbeds, and a big treeāin August 2014 with the help of Home Depot and the Buena Vista Beautifiers.
During the open house, Camp Fire members will be serving refreshments and providing tours of the cabin, which is located in the park at 833 S. Pine in Santa Maria.
The parade line-up begins at 5 p.m. in front of JC Pennyās on Broadway. This yearās theme is camping. The parade starts at 5:20 p.m. and goes to approximately 8:30 p.m. The float will be disassembled at the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum. For more info, contact the Camp Fire office at 773-5126.
