A group of Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery Sacred Arts Tour 2017 will be in Santa Maria at the Ann Foxworthy Gallery at Allan Hancock College from Sept. 4 through 8. They will create a large and elaborate sand mandala painting and perform cultural pageants that will include exhibiting their Tibetan crafts, song, dance, and elaborate costumes as well demonstrating debates that the monks use to sharpen their critical thinking skills.

Highlights include an opening and closing ceremony, Mandala viewing, guest lecturers, and sale of fair-trade Tibetan goods. The centerpiece is the multi-day construction of a sand mandala. Visitors are welcome 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Marti Fast at 342-5245, Ext. 3465.
