Santa Barbara County nonprofit Domestic Violence Solutions recently published the book, If Love Hurts, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Ā
Written mostly by survivors of abuse living in Santa Barbara County, the book is a collection of stories designed to tell the truth about the effects of physical and emotional violence on children, teens, and women.
Ā
āOne of the hallmarks of domestic violence is that itās kept in the dark. People donāt talk about it and they keep secrets about it within the family,ā said Domestic Violence Solutionsā executive director, Richard Kravetz. āThis is something that needs to be talked about so people understand they can get help. We have to end the silence.ā
Ā
The stories and poems in the book are meant to act as a guide to breaking the intergenerational cycle of abuse, and inspire people to move forward with their lives.
