The DANA Cultural Center in Nipomo will host a book signing and talk on Nov. 5 with local author Jim Gregory about his new book.

Arroyo Grande author Gregory’s third book on local history, San Luis Obispo County Outlaws: Desperados, Vigilantes, and Bootleggers, released in October by The History Press, traces the history of crime and law enforcement in a Wild West that included the Central Coast. The book begins with the first recorded mass murder in California history, at Mission San Miguel in 1848. It traces both the outlaws and the police officers who brought them to justice from the Gold Rush through Prohibition.

Meet the author and learn about the real-life scary history of the Central Coast and its reputation as the deadliest, most dangerous place in America on Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at 671 S. Oakglen Ave., Nipomo. More info: 929-5679.
