Some Santa Maria-Bonita School District schools are participating in McTeacher’s Night at local McDonald’s restaurants in October. Staff members from the schools, including teachers and classified employees, will take orders, cook, and serve as part of a fundraiser sponsored by McDonald’s.
On Oct. 23, Tunnell Elementary School staff will be at the McDonald’s on Fesler and Broadway, and Battles Elementary School Staff will be at the McDonald’s at 1720 S. Broadway from 5 to 8 p.m.
The restaurants, locally owned franchises by Ted and Cheryl Maddux, will donate 20 percent of the sales that occur between 5 and 8 p.m. to each school.
School staff will get a short training session, and then they’re up—responsible for prepping and cooking food, taking orders, making change, serving drinks, and anything else regular McDonald’s employees do. Restaurant employees will help school staff keep up with the fast-paced kitchen.
On Oct. 21, Bonita Elementary School, El Camino Junior High, and Taylor Elementary School participated in McTeacher’s Night. The money raised will go toward student activities such as field trips.
