A foursome of women representing Santa Maria’s Tri City Sound Chorus earned fifth place honors during Sweet Adelines International Region 11 Summer Sizzler Novice Quartet Competition held July 29 in Bakersfield. Highlights included Tri City Sound Chorus members Ann Silva (bass) of Santa Maria and Orcutt residents Susan Scheetz (tenor), Karen Eckman (baritone), and Jennifer Best (lead).

Tri City Sound members travel from as far away as the Santa Ynez Valley, Lompoc, and Nipomo to rehearse weekly in Santa Maria. The chorus represents Sweet Adelines International, a nonprofit organization that offers traditional tunes in four-part barbershop harmony. The chorus is open to all women interested in learning about barbershop-style music, singing, performing, and sisterhood. Rehearsals are held every Thursday evening from 6:45 to 9 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 4725 S. Bradley Road, in Orcutt.
