Former Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees President Henry Grennan died on May 1, following a battle with cancer. He sat on the board for 12 years, in addition to more than 40 yearsā experience working as a teacher and administrator for the Santa Maria-Bonita School District and Chapman University.
Grennan, who served as a Hancock trustee from 2000 to 2012, started a scholarship after his first year on the board in honor of his son, Patrick, according to a press release from the college. He also worked to pass a $180 million bond in 2006 that funded construction at the college.
Earlier this year, Santa Mariaās Recreation and Parks Commission named the new sports field at Oakley Park the Henry M. Grennan Field, in dedication to the former trustee.
Grennan died at 80 years old and is survived by his wife, Beverly, and their five children and numerous grandchildren.
