Girls Circle, a skill-building program run by the Santa Maria Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) for girls in seventh to 12th grades, is holding weekly sessions at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center.

The program is dedicated to improving teen girls’ lives by encouraging the development of strength, courage, confidence, honesty, and communication skills. It provides girls with tools to improve their relationships and better cope with issues such as self doubt, low self esteem, and behavior.

Girls Circle meets every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Youth Center, 600 S. McClelland St. in Santa Maria. Each session incorporates a different theme and a variety of activities ranging from team-building exercises to guest speakers, field trips, and arts and crafts projects.
