Allan Hancock College is gearing up for the 15th annual Blaine Johnson Memorial golf tournament, held this year on Nov. 16 at the Santa Maria Country Club.

The $150 cost to enter the tournament includes green fees, golf carts, lunch, and beverages. An awards banquet for teams finishing in the top three in low gross and low net is scheduled to follow, as is an auction at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge. Check-in starts at 10 a.m., with the tournament beginning at 11:30 a.m. A social hour and dinner will also be held beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1309 N. Bradley Road in Santa Maria.

Tickets must be purchased by Nov. 7 by calling 922-1202. Banquet and auction tickets can also be purchased separately for $25.

Johnson was a professional drag racer from Santa Maria who won a record 26 National Hot Rod Association titles in the Alcohol Division. He was killed when he lost control of his dragster and crashed at a U.S. Nationals event in Indianapolis in 1996.

Proceeds from the memorial tournament will benefit Hancock’s Automotive Tech Lab and the Blaine Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
