The city of Buellton will begin negotiating with a Nipomo golf course management company to run the former Zaca Creek Golf Course, located near the city’s Avenue of the Flags.
City Council members on Oct. 13 approved City Manager John Kunkel to negotiate with Sierra Turf Inc., one of two companies to submit proposals to the city to operate the 24-acre course. An ad hoc committee of Mayor Ed Andrisek and Parks and Recreation Commissioner Tom Armor had picked a Lompoc company, Premier Club Management, to contract with, but Premier withdrew its bid prior to the meeting.
The city bought the nine-hole course for $500,000 in May, and in June, council members voted unanimously to send out a Request for Proposal to lease the course out to professional managers. Once a contract is signed with a management company, the agreement will come back to the council for final approval.
