Santa Maria's Strawberry Queen contest is now open
Ever dreamed of being queen for a day? How about a whole year? Those are the questions being posed by the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce as part of its quest for a 2010 Strawberry Queen. The contest is open to girls ages 5 to 18. To participate, each girl must sell as many raffle tickets as possible now through April. According to Chamber officials, proceeds from ticket sales will go toward prizes and other student scholarship programs. The queen and two princesses will be crowned at the 2010 Strawberry Queen Pageant on April 23 at 7 p.m. at the Santa Maria Fairpark Park Plaza. Winners of the cash drawing will be announced at the event as well. To register, submit an application and photo in person to the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, located at 614 S. Broadway. —Amy Asman News Briefs is compiled by Sun staffers from staff reporting and local and national media. Information should be sent to the Sun via fax, e-mail, or mail. |
