Lincoln's speech still resonates todaySan Luis Obispo
This election, this moment in history, reminds me of Abraham Lincoln’s words in the Gettysburg Address. There is much at stake, and much can be lost.
Romney understands wealth and how the rich can hold onto and grow their wealth. He showed in his 25 years running Bain Capital that he was willing to sacrifice the jobs of working people and their pensions, but he always made money on each deal personally. Romney and Republicans like the idea of taking over public services for private profit, from education to Medicare and even to FEMA.
It should be simple for us to see that it costs more for services when more profit is factored in, but many folks are watching ads and believing lies instead of studying and thinking. Romney will not help our economy, folks, although some wealthy will benefit to the extreme. Rights of women, gays, voters, and workers are all at stake.
Lincoln spoke of this experiment in democracy, this nation “conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” He said that we must dedicate ourselves “to the great task remaining before us—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
