Artist Margie Bowker, a well-known international and Central Coast artist, will be showing her specially chosen collection of paintings through Aug. 12 at Saks Fifth Avenue, 1001 State St. in Santa Barbara. An artistās reception will be held at Saks Fifth Avenue on Thursday, June 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
One part of the collection deals with the Xhosa people, Nelson Mandelaās tribe in South Africa, where Bowker was born and educated. These watercolor paintings depict the love rural Africans have for their children and the simple country life. Some of these paintings are pen and wash sketches.
Another part of the collection includes colorful and whimsical paintings of women, popular since Bowker arrived in America 15 years ago. Some have been embellished to add sparkle.
Bowker shows her love for the beauty of Central Coast vineyards in her oil and watercolor collection. To round off the exhibit, a selection of art tiles featuring images from Bowkerās artwork will be on display.
For more information, call Bowker at 937-0665 or Saks Fifth Avenue at 884-9997.
