Special Olympics athletes go for the goldMore than 200 Special Olympics athletes from the Tri-Counties and Kern County will be competing for medals at the North Regional Fall Games in Santa Maria on Oct. 13. The festivities kick off at 9:30 a.m. with the opening ceremony and a parade of athletes from each county represented at the games. Honored guests will lead the athletes as they march across the field and witness the lighting of the Special Olympics Torch. The event moves on with a full day of soccer and softball competition beginning at 10 a.m., and the medal ceremony at 3 p.m. Attendees will also be able to learn more about Special Olympics and pick up items at information booths and boutiques throughout the day.
