Model trains chug into Santa Maria library

Local train buffs, modelers, and kids of all ages are invited to share the history of trains at “Model Railroad Day” on June 25 at the Santa Maria Library.

The San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Association (SLOMRA) will host the free event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the library’s Shepard Hall. It’s the organization’s first ever show in Santa Maria. The SLOMRA will be displaying a wide variety of operating model trains, as well as its expanded operating HO- and N-scale model train layouts.

SLOMRA President Dennis Pearson will also be displaying and running his On30 layout, depicting the historic Pacific Coast Railway. Books, CDs, and DVDs on trains will be available along with a “Train Treasure” yard sale and a swap meet featuring deals on new and used model railroad items.

The Santa Maria Public Library is at 421 S. McClelland St. in Santa Maria.

For more information on Model Railroad Day or the SLOMRA, call Dennis Pearson at 709-8050 or visit slomra.org.
