Future Bulldogs: Get to know Hancock College
All students going to Allan Hancock College for the first time this fall are required to attend an orientation, college officials announced earlier this month. Hancock’s “Mega” orientations will be held Aug. 10 at the Santa Maria campus and Aug. 11 at the Lompoc Valley Center. Smaller one-hour events are scheduled several times through Sept. 1. All orientations will provide information about college services such as counseling, financial aid, health services, job opportunities, and more. The larger orientations will offer the added benefits of the opportunity to meet faculty and staff members, tour the campus, and receive a free academic planner, as well as some prizes. “Our goal is to ensure that all students begin college with the information they need to succeed,” Yvonne Teniente-Cuello, chair of counseling at the college, said in a press release. “We pack a lot of information into these sessions. Our research tells us that those who participate in an orientation like this have much higher retention rates—meaning they stay the course and achieve their goals.” The Santa Maria campus Mega Orientation on Aug. 10 will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in the Marian Theatre located inside the Performing Arts Center, building D. The Lompoc Valley Center Mega Orientation on Aug. 11 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the campus courtyard. For more information on one-hour sessions or to register, call 922-6966, Ext. 3293 (Santa Maria), or 735-3366, Ext. 5200 (Lompoc), or e-mail counseling@hancockcollege.edu.
