SURVIVOR: The Righetti High School community recently raised money for senior Joshua Amador, who underwent a series of surgeries for brain cancer, and his family. Amador is now in remission.

Ernest Righetti High School students and staff recently organized a fundraiser to help ease the burden of medical costs for a student with cancer.

Joshua Amador, 19, who will graduate in June, has had brain cancer for several years and is undergoing numerous surgeries at an Orange County hospital. He’s now in remission.

The Righetti crew held a tri-tip barbecue and placed collection cans in every classroom with posters that said “Make A Change for Josh.” Students were hoping to raise $500, but far exceeded their goal. The school raised a total of $3,652.80, which students turned over to the family.

“I could not do it without the staff and students at ERHS,” Joshua’s mother Jodi said in a press release. “They all pulled together for us and they are amazing. Josh is my inspiration. He’s so strong. He keeps you going.”

Jodi added that the money would help with travel and the other costs associated with the surgeries, which haven’t allowed her to work on a consistent basis.

Righetti Education Specialist Janene Maa said in the press release that the outreach effort taught students about community service and the value of helping those in need.

“Never underestimate the power of unity for an important cause,” she said.
