United Way awards Santa Maria High teachers
BY CAMILLIA LANHAM
The Power Reading Teachers Incentive Promotion is starting to dole out checks to teachers within the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District. Power Reading uses computer software to help students improve their reading comprehension and proficiency.
This month’s winners are Santa Maria High School teachers Teri Magni and Auni Baldwin. The promotion will take place throughout the 2013-2014 school year. Both teachers received incentive checks at the end of the last school year and are receiving another small check to help start off the school year in their respective classrooms.
A press release sent out by United Way said the winners in local school districts are determined by a number of criteria, one of which is the percentage of students who reach grade-level reading or beyond in the Reading Plus program.
