County parks commission to consider parking fees at several beachesBY AMY ASMANFree parking at beaches in Santa Barbara County could soon be a thing of the past, like cheap gas or Pontiac convertibles. On July 26, the Santa Barbara County Parks Commission will hold a public meeting to discuss a staff report on the possibility of charging parking fees at seven parks to generate revenue for county coffers. The beaches up for consideration include Rincon Beach, Loon Point, Lookout Park, Arroyo Burro Beach, Goleta Beach, Ocean Beach, and Guadalupe Dunes Park. The commissioners will also discuss how much to charge for parking and potential citations, as well as the possibility of enforcing parking fees at all county parks. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors hearing room in the county administration building, 105 E. Anapamu St. in Santa Barbara. Northern Santa Barbara County residents unable to attend the meeting in person can watch the meeting remotely at the Board of Supervisors hearing room in the Betteravia Government Center, 511 E. Lakeside Parkway in Santa Maria. Additional meetings will be held to discuss the topic on Aug. 16 in Santa Barbara and on Aug. 23 in Santa Maria. For more information, or to fill out a survey on beach parking fees, visit sbparks.org. Surveys must be completed by Aug. 16. |
