Marshall's is coming to Lompoc

The shopping superstore with a shoe section to make footwear fans’ hearts melt looks like it will be opening its doors in Lompoc.

Marshall’s, a clothing retailer and part of TJX Companies Inc., is tentatively scheduled to open in September at the Lompoc Shopping Center on North H Street.

Brixmor Property Group, a New York-based company that owns the Lompoc Shopping Center, announced its new lease with Marshall’s for the 24,050-square-foot building in December 2011.

But before the doors open and the shopping chaos begins, there are still a few things to be done at the new store. Previously used by Halloween City on a seasonal lease, the store is being remodeled, Lompoc Economic Development Director Teresa Gallavan said. Builders will be adding dressing rooms, checkout counters, bathrooms, and a manager’s office.

With September quickly approaching and construction moving along, Marshall’s will need to begin hiring employees. Gallavan said Marshall’s will be holding a job fair from July 31 to Aug. 3 at Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Lompoc had an unemployment rate of 13.6 percent in April. Lompoc will welcome Marshall’s not only as a retailer but as a big employer.
