Firefighters rescue a swimmer at Red RockBY AMY ASMANMembers of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department made a dramatic Memorial Day rescue on May 28 at the Red Rock recreational area along the Santa Ynez River. Two engines, a battalion chief, and a helicopter to responded a medical emergency at the popular hangout, as did members of the U.S. Forest Service and American Medical Response. According to a press release, witnesses said a man jumped off of a rock into shallow water and sustained injuries to his head. The swimming hole is approximately 15 minutes from the Red Rock main parking lot. Firefighters had to hike in to assist the swimmer, and some were lowered from a helicopter. Firefighters treated the patient at the scene for moderate head and neck trauma. He was then transported to Cottage Hospital via AMR ambulance for further treatment. |
