Weekly Poll
Should local campuses adopt "safe haven" policies to protect undocumented students?

Heck no, we're living in Trump's America now!
Yes, all students need to feel safe on campus.
Some of the proposals go a bit far, but they have the right idea.
I don't care, I dropped out anyway.

Matt Kokkonen, Republican candidate for the 33rd District State Assembly Seat, recently announced that he’s added a prominent Santa Maria rancher to his list of endorsers. Peter Adam is a co-owner of Adam Brothers Farming, one of the largest vegetable harvesting and canning operations on the Central Coast. “I support Matt Kokkonen because he’s willing to stand up against big government and its continuing efforts to tax and regulate local businesses out of existence,” Adam said in a release to the media. Adam Brothers Farming has become well known over the last few years for successfully suing Santa Barbara County government for falsely designating some of their property as a “wetland,” thus removing valuable farmland from production. “I know Matt Kokkonen will be a friend of farmers and ranchers in Sacramento and will defend our private property rights against government encroachment,” Adam said in the release.

On March 17, the Dolores Huerta Santa Barbara County Young Democrats announced that it has endorsed local Santa Barbara City Council member Das Williams’s campaign for the 35th State Assembly District seat. The organization reported in a press release that its membership voted unanimously in Williams’s favor. “We chose to support Das Williams in this race because he is by far the candidate with the broadest range of experience,” Olivia Uribe, co-chair of the Young Democrats, said in the release. “Das has a great record on job creation, balanced budgets, education, the environment, public safety, and on a host of other critical issues that are important to people in this district. ... Das’s energetic approach and new, fresh ideas are exactly what we need to get our state back on track.” The Santa Barbara County Young Democrats now join the Young Democrats of Ventura County and the U.C. Santa Barbara Campus Democrats in their support of Das Williams’s Assembly campaign. Members of the Young Democrats volunteer thousands of hours knocking on doors, phone banking, and participating in other activities on behalf of their candidates.
