Breakfast club helps VTC

Rotary members presented a check for $25,000 to VTC representatives at a special event on Feb. 26. The money will go toward funding the new Quality Life Services facility. Contractors are expected to break ground on the project in early April.

The Quality Life Services program provides VTC’s most vulnerable clients with independent living skills, socialization skills, and prevocational training. The new building—estimated to cost approximately $3.9 million—will be wheelchair accessible and have other special amenities. The program currently operates out of a collection of offices that are falling into disrepair. VTC officials have said the offices used to be barracks for migrant farm workers and are at least 80 to 100 years old.

The lobby of the new building will be named in honor of the Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary, according to a joint press release from VTC and the Rotary Club.

VTC is a nonprofit organization that helps youth and adults with disabilities to achieve their life goals. Founded in 1962, this organization currently serves almost 300 individuals daily.
