Convicted felon arrested for possession of meth pipe and rifles

A Santa Maria man was arrested by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office on Nov. 23 after deputies allegedly found a methamphetamine pipe and assault rifles in his car.

Barry Pardo, 52, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an assault weapon, high capacity magazines, and drug paraphernalia after deputies stopped him for speeding and later searched his car, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Pardo, who Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover said was previously convicted of felony domestic violence, is prohibited from possessing firearms, according to the release, and faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Deputies stopped Pardo for speeding at about 9 p.m. near the intersection of Mahoney and Black roads in Santa Maria. Officials conducted a limited search of the suspect's car after he was unable to provide required documentation, Hoover said.

During the search, Hoover said deputies found a meth pipe and a large rifle case, which was visible behind the back seat. The rifle case, according to the release, contained an assault rifle without a serial number, a small caliber rifle, and two large capacity AR-15 magazines.

Pardo was arrested and booked into custody at the Lompoc Police Department, where his bail was set at $35,000.
