One man was arrested in Santa Maria on July 27 during a domestic violence incident that ended up shutting down an entire block for several hours, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
Sgt. Russ Mengel of the SMPD said he couldn’t pinpoint the exact time of the call, but said that police were dispatched to a house located in the 200 block of South Western Street, where 19-year-old Lucio Olivero-Velasquez was allegedly hiding inside. Olivero-Velasquez is suspected of striking a 16-year-old female and threatening her with a knife inside the home, which also contained a child.
The police responded to the residence at 2:48 p.m. and didn’t end up leaving until around 4:30 p.m., Mengel said, adding that a K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene to find Olivero-Velasquez, who was hiding inside the house. The dog ended up biting Olivero-Velasquez, Mengel said, but added that he didn’t require hospitalization, even though he was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center.
“Every time we use force, we go by the hospital,” Mengel said.
Olivero-Velasquez was booked into jail on suspicion of domestic violence, brandishing a knife, kidnapping, resisting arrest, and child endangerment.
