Man shot in Santa Maria on Dec. 8 is in stable condition

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred the night of Dec. 8, which left one man injured and a lot of questions.

According to a press release issued by the Santa Maria Police Department, officers responded to a call of gunshots heard in the 600 block of West Cypress in a residential area between South Depot and Smith streets. When they arrived, they found a man lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his upper body. Police wouldn’t say exactly where he was shot, but they did note that the shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m.

Police said the victim has been identified as a Hispanic male, who was transported by ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he’s listed in stable condition and is expected to survive. The victim’s name is being withheld by police.

At the time of this writing, no one has been arrested. The shooting is under investigation by the Santa Maria Detective Bureau. Police are asking the public for any information on the shooting and are urged to call 928-3781, Ext. 297.
