Clarification

Santa Maria City Council member Jack Boysen wanted to clarify a couple points mentioned in the Aug. 21 article “Racing for a seat.” He said he works very closely with all levels of city management, and “I am not afraid to challenge management’s presentations and ideas.” Boysen added that he doesn’t favor or support increasing taxes. “We need to increase our TOT [transient occupancy tax] and sales tax base by encouraging quality hotels and sales tax generating businesses” to come to Santa Maria and encouraging existing business to expand, he said.
