Fireworks in Santa Maria

By Concerned Citizen, Santa Maria

For the past three or four years my next door neighbors have thrown a very large Fourth of July party, and every year they have ignited illegal fireworks.

The fireworks shows have run continuously for three to four hours. Last year we called the "Santa Maria Fireworks Hotline," and were informed that no police would be dispatched unless and until another resident called with a complaint. Why spend city resources on television ads and inserts to our utility bills if we're not going to enforce the rules? Who will be liable when a child is killed or an adult loses a hand?

Did the federal government shutdown impact you or your family?

Yes. We missed paychecks and had to make some tough decisions.
I don't work for the government, and it didn't impact me at all.
I don't have a government job, but I still missed out on important services.
I'm glad it happened. Who needs airport security anyway?
