Prep Football Showcase hits Righetti High School

High school football players from all over the Central Coast will have the opportunity to show off their skills in front of national media at the B2G Instinct Showcase on May 9 at Righetti High School.

The goal of the showcase is to introduce local players to college scouts by publishing results on outlets like Fox Sports, CBS, and Scout.com.

“I welcome the opportunity to provide something for parents to help their kids get a scholarship,” said Righetti strength and conditioning coach Monte Nash, the event’s organizer. “When you get a chance to see what people do in competition, it gives you a better idea of how legitimate they are.”

B2G is an athletic training company contracted by universities to scout college prospects. The upcoming showcase is open to all prep football players at a cost of $100 for registration, which includes a one-year membership, a profile on ActiveRecruiting.com, and a shot at an invitation to the B2G Elite Camp, held June 25 to 28 in Thousand Oaks.

The one-day event differs from a typical scouting combine in that players face off against each other in one-on-one and 7-on-7 competitions.

Nash said most talented local high-school football players have only two choices after graduation: Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo or Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. He wants to make the possibility of attending a bigger school attainable for top prospects.

“Hopefully, it provides these kids an outlet if they want to continue their football career,” Nash said. “It helps open up different avenues to get there.”

Players from Santa Barbara County high schools—including Righetti, Lompoc, and St. Joseph—will take part in the event, which will run from 2 to 5 p.m. Nash said being exposed to other top talent outside of their usual scrimmages inspires the players to work harder and have higher expectations of themselves.

“When they’re out there, there’s no joking around,” Nash said. “No one wants to show a bad work ethic when there’s players from other cities around.”
