Businesses get fair employment advice

Business owners are invited to attend a July 14 meeting by the Human Resources Association of the Central Coast to learn more about how the Department of Fair Housing and Employment investigates complaints.
 
In honor of the Fair Employment and Housing Act’s 50th anniversary, Mary Bonilla will speak on the department’s complaint process, what investigators look for when they knock on the door, and how employers can avoid common mistakes.

Bonilla is a district administrator for the state’s Department of Fair Housing and Employment. The agency enforces state laws prohibiting harassment and discrimination in the workplace or housing and investigates complaints or threats of hate violence. Bonilla oversees the agency’s Bakersfield District Office, which is responsible for investigations in Santa Barbara, Kern, and Ventura counties.

The meeting will run from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the Madonna Inn. The cost to attend is $20 for members of the association, $25 for non-members, and $30 at the door.
