Pitching zero runs, two hits, and nine strikeouts in seven innings on April 2, St. Joseph High School sophomore Skylar Johnson helped her softball team snag its first league win in nearly five years. Her phenomenal game came as no surprise to coach John Welch, who said Johnson's work ethic is second to none.

"She shows up early every day and goes through her strict workout routine," Welch said in an email to the Sun.

Johnson works hard off the field, too. She volunteers at local food drives, works as an assistant coach for her younger sister's basketball team, and maintains a 3.8 grade point average in school.

"Her leadership attitude is a great asset to our team," Welch said, "and as a staff we really appreciate her commitment."
