Spirit Ricks

By KASEY BUBNASH

Although Allan Hancock College student Spirit Ricks is only a freshman, he's already captain of the Hancock men's basketball team and averages double digits in both rebounds and points each game.

"He's more than a great player," head coach Tyson Aye said in an interview with the Sun. "He's a great player and a great young man."

As the team's wing forward, Aye said Ricks constantly plays well and with versatility. Ricks also maintained a 4.0 grade point average last semester, Aye said, and he'll be able to transfer to a four-year college after this year. College coaches and scouts from all around the state are already reaching out to Ricks, and Aye said he fully expects Ricks to be recruited on a full-ride scholarship by the end of this school year.

"Spirit is going to go on and do many positive things after he leaves here," Aye said, "and not just in basketball."
